After Sir Walter Scott died, a number of local dignitaries united to build a monument to this much-loved Scottish writer. Scott was the author of Ivanhoe, Waverley and Rob Roy. Located in the tranquil Princes Street Gardens, the Scott Monument feels strangely, and rather wonderfully, at odds with the high street clothing stores and multiple phone shops set just across the road, on the capital’s busiest shopping street. This is a key monument in the capital’s history.
